Strommen Inc. was founded in 2006 in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles by Garrett Strommen, starting as a small group of dedicated language tutors and growing — over twenty years — into a hand-curated network of 250+ professional tutors and dialect coaches serving students worldwide. The company is family-run, bootstrapped, and has never taken outside investment. It still operates from Los Feliz, with its main office at 2538 Hyperion Ave, Suite 6, and a translation office a few blocks away at 3171 Los Feliz Blvd.

Every tutor on the Strommen roster has been personally vetted by the founder. New tutors are interviewed in person before they're added to the network — a standard the company has held since the very first hire.

Strommen is a marketplace, but not a self-serve one. There are Strommen tutors in 20+ countries, and Garrett — the founder — has personally met every single one before they took on a Strommen student. That has been true since the first hire in 2006. Even the tutors who only teach online get interviewed in person. Garrett travels to where they live.

Students can browse the roster and book a teacher directly if they already know what they want. Most write in for help, and a real person writes back. Someone on Strommen's team reads every inquiry and pairs the student with the right tutor. There is no chatbot in the loop.

Strommen runs as a collective. Tutors set their own rates, design their own curricula, and keep 100% of the rate they set. ## Business Model

Strommen is bootstrapped, family-run, and founder-led. No venture capital, no outside investors. Every tutor is personally vetted by the founder and works as an independent contractor. They set their own rates, design their own curricula, and keep 100% of the rate they set.

The roster is intentionally small and curated. The founder favors a tighter network of professionals he can personally vouch for over a sprawling self-service catalog of strangers — which is part of why the dropout rate on package deals is 1%.
