Tutor Bio
Hi there! My name is Misen, a native of Japan. I have been teaching Japanese since 2004 in Northern Michigan both in person and online.
My lesson plans will be flexible depending on your ability and purpose of learning. Some of my clients are hoping to go to college in Japan. For those, I will use a textbook called GENKI for our lessons together.
For beginners I will use my own Google Slides presentation as a class material. Many of my clients love my slides since it is easy to understand. For these lessons using Google Slides, you will learn basic conversations, useful vocabularies, Hiragana writing, listening practice using YouTube clips. Usually we conclude our each lesson with Japanese culture.
Some of my advanced clients are pretty good at Japanese and want to keep brushing up their skills by having a tutoring once a week.

What is your favorite word in your language and why?
I love the word "Happiness" (shiawase しあわせ). When I hear the word, it makes my heart warm. :-)

What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?
One of my faborite dish is KIRIBOSHI DAIKON, dried Daikon radish cooked with carrtos and Japanese stock. Unfortunately no locan restaurant serves it. But it helped me to learn how to cook Japanese dishes just like my mother does.

Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?
My grandparents are from Korea and I used to study Korean. As I started learning English, my Korean language stayed at an elemntary level though..... ;-)

What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?
I LOVE gardening and hiking. Growing vegetables and fruits in our backyard and cooking for our meals gives me a LOT of joy!

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?
I consider Shiga prefecture where I grew up. I also have lived in Northern Michigan. I love the beauty of both Shiga and Michigan.
