Tutor Bio

I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself and extend a warm welcome to you. I have been teaching Spanish for many years, and I am passionate about helping my students not only learn the language but also appreciate the rich cultures of the Spanish-speaking world

In our classes, we will focus on building your skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking Spanish. My goal is to create an engaging and supportive learning environment where you feel comfortable and motivated to participate.

Teaching a language often involves immersing students in the culture of the countries where that language is spoken. Sharing cultural insights, traditions, and customs can be a fascinating aspect of language instruction. It opens up a world of understanding and appreciation beyond just the language itself.

As a teacher, selecting the right teaching approach is crucial for ensuring that my students are engaged, motivated, and receptive to the learning experience. Here are a few considerations of my teaching approach:

Know my students: Understand the diverse learning styles, abilities, and interests of your students.

Set clear learning objectives: Define clear learning goals and objectives for my lessons. Aligning my teaching approach with these objectives ensures that my students are on track to meet the desired outcomes.

Be flexible: I am prepared to adapt my teaching approach based on the dynamic needs of my students. Flexibility allows students and me as a teacher to make real-time adjustments to enhance engagement and understanding.

Encourage active participation: Engage students in the learning process by incorporating interactive activities, discussions, and collaborative projects. Encouraging active participation fosters critical thinking and deeper understanding.

Provide constructive feedback: Offer feedback that is specific, actionable, and supportive. Constructive feedback helps students reflect on their learning and progress, improving their performance over time.
By considering these aspects and being mindful of my students' needs, I can effectively choose and implement a teaching approach that maximizes learning outcomes and creates a positive and engaging classroom environment.

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

"Sobremesa" is a Spanish term that beautifully captures the essence of lingering at the table after a meal (breakfast, lunch and dinner), engaging in heartfelt and leisurely conversation with loved ones. It’s my favorite word because it embodies the warmth and connection that come from sharing time together beyond the meal itself. In these moments, conversations flow freely, bonds are strengthened, and memories are made, turning a simple meal into a cherished experience of togetherness and joy.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

Chorrillana is a beloved Chilean dish that combines hearty flavors and comforting ingredients. It features a generous serving of crispy French fries topped with savory strips of beef, caramelized onions, and fried eggs. This delicious and satisfying dish is a perfect blend of textures and tastes, offering a flavorful and indulgent culinary experience. You can find it in most of Chilean restaurants.

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

No by the moment, but I would love to do it!

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

In addition to teaching, I have a diverse range of interests and activities. I practice pole dance, which combines strength, flexibility, and artistry in a dynamic and empowering way. I also engage in fencing, honing my skills in this elegant and strategic martial art. Additionally, I participate in historical reenactment, immersing myself in the past through detailed costumes and authentic experiences that bring history to life.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

Santiago, my hometown, is a vibrant and dynamic city that truly has everything—modern amenities, rich cultural experiences, and stunning natural landscapes. Nestled between mountains, it offers a blend of bustling urban life and serene outdoor spaces. Additionally, I hold a special place in my heart for Vicuña, a charming town where my uncles, cousins, and extended family live. This connection to Vicuña enriches my appreciation of both towns, each offering its unique charm and significance in my life.
