What is your favorite word in your language and why?
My Favorite Word in Spanish and Why My favorite word in Spanish is "querencia." This term captures a profound and beautiful concept that goes beyond a simple definition. "Querencia" refers to a place where one feels safe, loved, and at home; it’s where you feel a deep sense of belonging and comfort. From a marketing perspective, this word resonates deeply with my teaching philosophy and approach. Just as "querencia" signifies a sanctuary where one can thrive, I aim to create a learning environment that is welcoming, supportive, and tailored to each student's needs. By fostering a sense of safety and belonging, students are more likely to engage deeply with the language and culture, leading to a richer and more effective learning experience. Using the concept of "querencia" as a cornerstone of my teaching highlights the emotional and cultural depth of the Spanish language, making it an attractive journey for prospective students. It aligns with marketing principles of creating an emotional connection and delivering a personalized, meaningful experience. This approach not only makes learning Spanish enjoyable but also emphasizes the value of cultural and emotional connection, which is crucial in language acquisition. Incorporating this word into my teaching narrative helps to differentiate my services by emphasizing a unique and heartfelt approach, appealing to students' desires for a supportive and enriching learning environment.

What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?
One of my favorite dishes from my hometown in Spain is "Salmorejo," a refreshing cold tomato soup originally from Córdoba. This dish, made with ripe tomatoes, bread, garlic, olive oil, and a touch of vinegar, is typically garnished with hard-boiled eggs and jamón serrano, offering a delightful combination of flavors and textures. Sharing my love for Salmorejo allows potential students to connect with a unique aspect of Spanish cuisine, enhancing their cultural and linguistic learning experience. Although I no longer live in Spain, Brussels offers many fantastic Spanish restaurants. While specific recommendations for Salmorejo can be challenging, Tio Pepe and La Cantina Española are reputable places where one can enjoy authentic Spanish cuisine. These restaurants bring the flavors of Spain to Brussels, allowing me to enjoy my favorite dish and share this cultural experience with others. By highlighting Salmorejo, I provide a unique and authentic perspective that enriches my teaching approach, connecting with students on a deeper cultural level. This approach not only makes learning Spanish enjoyable but also emphasizes the value of cultural immersion, making the language-learning journey more meaningful and engaging.

Outside of teaching at Strommen, I have a wide array of interests that fuel my curiosity and passion for learning. I am deeply fascinated by subjects such as science, history, philosophy, sociology, and psychology. This diverse intellectual curiosity drives me to constantly seek new knowledge and perspectives. Traveling is a significant passion of mine, as evidenced by my experiences in various countries. It allows me to immerse myself in different cultures, meet new people, and bring those rich experiences back into my teaching. I also enjoy reading, listening to music, and watching cinema and series, which provide both relaxation and further cultural insights. Scuba diving is another hobby I cherish, offering a unique way to explore the underwater world and its wonders. I am a dog lover and enjoy the companionship and joy they bring. Sports and physical activities are important to me for maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Meeting people from diverse backgrounds and cultures enriches my life and broadens my understanding of the world. These interests not only enhance my personal life but also positively influence my teaching, allowing me to create a more engaging and well-rounded learning experience for my students.

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?
Choosing just one hometown is really hard for me because I love traveling and I'm curious by nature, so I'm not sure I can actually pick just one. However, if I had to highlight a few places that feel like home to me, they would be Chiang Mai, Mexico City, and Madrid. Chiang Mai has a special place in my heart due to its vibrant culture, friendly people, and beautiful landscapes. The rich traditions and serene atmosphere make it a unique place where I always feel welcome. Mexico City is another favorite, with its lively streets, delicious food, and rich history. The energy and diversity of the city are incredibly inspiring and always leave me wanting to explore more. Madrid, where I spent a significant part of my life, is full of personal memories and cultural richness. The city's dynamic atmosphere, combined with its historical charm, makes it a place I always love to return to. Looking ahead, I am particularly curious to discover Sydney and Brisbane. Their unique blend of urban life and natural beauty excites my adventurous spirit, and I can't wait to experience all they have to offer.
