The Numerous French Dialects

There are many variations and regional dialects of French in use around the world. Of the various forms, Metropolitan French, spoken in Paris, France, is considered the primary standard of French. However, outside France proper, in Europe, there is also Belgian Swiss French and Aostan French. In the Americas, Canada has its own variations such as Quebecois and Acadian French. In Haiti the French is functionally the same but with important differences in intonation, meaning speakers from Metropolitan France are generally able to understand without too much difficulty.  In North Africa and in the middle east, Levantine or Lebanese French is spoken by many communities. In Asia, many areas that were part of the French colonies have their own regional variants. Below is a list of some of the more common variants:
