Tutor Bio

Hello, my name is Arianna Chiesa, and I am from Italy. I am a freelance translator and tutor, I hold a university degree in Audiovisual Translation and a Master's degree in Translation, concluded with 110 cum laude.
I started tutoring 6 years ago, offering English and Spanish lessons to Italian students that needed help with these languages; but I also offer Italian lessons to non-native speakers. I love teaching my mother tongue because it allows me to support non-native speakers in learning and improving their Italian in an effective and personalized way. I can teach Italian for a wide range of purposes and situations, always integrating cultural insights and aspects of everyday life to make the learning experience richer and more engaging.

Degrees and Certificates

  • Degrees: BA in Linguistic Mediation; MA in Translation; MA in Audiovisual Translation

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

My favorite word in Italian is “magari.” I love this word because it is very versatile and expresses nuances that are hard to translate into one single English word. Depending on the context, magari can mean maybe, I wish, if only, or even express enthusiasm and hope. It reflects a very human mix of desire, possibility, and imagination, and it shows how Italian often conveys emotions indirectly through tone and context.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

My favorite dish from my hometown is pizza, especially the traditional pizza margherita. I love it because of its simplicity: fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, olive oil, and a perfectly baked dough. When made well, it represents the balance and authenticity of Italian cuisine, where high-quality ingredients are more important than complexity.

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

Yes, I speak Spanish, English and a little bit of Portuguese, French, and Greek.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

Outside of teaching at Strommen, I enjoy exploring languages and cultures, reading, and staying curious about how people communicate across different backgrounds. I also love food and cooking, especially traditional Italian recipes, as they are a great way to share culture beyond words. In my free time, I enjoy walking, listening to music, and discovering new places, whether in my city or while traveling. These interests help me stay inspired and bring real-life experiences into my teaching.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

I consider Turin my hometown. I love it because it combines elegance, history, and a quieter, more reflective atmosphere compared to other big Italian cities. Turin has beautiful architecture, long arcaded streets, and a strong cultural identity shaped by literature, cinema, and innovation. What I appreciate most is the balance it offers: it is a vibrant city with museums, cafés, and universities, but it is also close to nature, with the Alps just a short distance away. This mix of culture, history, and landscape makes Turin a place where I always feel connected and inspired.
