What is your favorite word in your language and why?

My favorite word in my language is "arpi," which means the sun in Armenian. It holds a special meaning for me because the sun symbolizes warmth, light, and positivity. As you can see, it's also the root of my name, making it even more significant and personal.

What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

One of my favorite Armenian dishes is dolma. It’s made by stuffing grape leaves with a mixture of ground meat like lamb or beef, rice, and herbs. The flavors are rich and aromatic, and it’s often served with a side of yogurt for extra creaminess. Dolma is a dish that brings people together, and it's perfect for family gatherings or special occasions.

Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

In addition to the languages I teach, I’ve studied Russian and French. Russian caught my interest with its complexity and beautiful literature, while French attracted me with its charm and romance. Both have enriched my understanding of language and culture in unique ways.

What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

Outside of teaching at Strommen, I'm really interested in yoga and digital character design. Yoga helps me stay grounded and relaxed, while digital character design allows me to explore my creativity and bring unique characters to life through art and technology. Both activities are a great way for me to express myself outside of work.

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

I consider my hometown to be Armenia, a place full of history, culture, and natural beauty. I love it because of its rich traditions, warm-hearted people, and stunning landscapes, from the mountains to the valleys. It’s where I feel safe and have the sense of truly being at home. Armenia has a unique charm, with its ancient sites, delicious food, and deep-rooted sense of community. It’s a place where the past and present come together, and every corner has a story to tell.
