Tutor Bio

Hello, my name is Caterina. I have dedicated my career to fostering linguistic proficiency and cultural understanding in both Italian and English. My journey in language instruction began with a solid academic foundation, including degrees in Linguistic Mediation and Interpreter Translation from Vittoria University in Turin. I further improved my skills with a CELTA certification, completed with an "Above Standard" grade, and a DITALS qualification, specializing in teaching Italian as a second language.

Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of working with different types of students, from young learners to corporate executives, in various settings including military academies, universities, and international corporations. My 20 years of experience spans from intensive language courses preparing military personnel for the JFLT exam to tailored corporate language training for companies like Pininfarina Automotive and Michelin.
I create engaging, personalized learning experiences; my approach combines innovative teaching methodologies with a deep understanding of linguistic nuances, allowing me to adapt to each student's unique needs and learning style.
My international experience, including teaching Italian in Congo and working with online platforms, has enhanced my cross-cultural communication skills. This global perspective allowed me to prepare students not just linguistically, but also culturally for international interactions.
I am passionate about continuous learning and regularly update my teaching techniques.

Learn more about Caterina

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

My favourite word in Italian is: "emozioni". Emotions play a vital role in language learning, as they deeply influence how we process and retain information. When learners feel engaged and motivated, they naturally absorb language more effectively. This emotional connection helps create lasting memories, particularly when vocabulary and grammar are linked to personal experiences.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

A favorite traditional dish from Turin is "Vitello Tonnato" - a thinly sliced veal served with a creamy tuna-flavored sauce. This cold appetizer is particularly popular in summer. "Del Cambio," one of Turin's oldest restaurants, serves an excellent version of this dish. The combination of tender veal and rich, creamy sauce, garnished with capers and fresh herbs, perfectly represents Turin's refined culinary traditions.

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

Apart from speaking Italian, I do speak English and Spanish fluently. In the past, I also lived several months in the Middle East where I intensively studied Standard Arabic. This led me to travel and visit various countries in the Middle East for several years . I also lived in Congo for 1 year and a half teaching Italian to Congolese engineers. On that occasion, I brushed up my knowledge of French from previous studies and improved my speaking skills. I have also studied German for 3 years at the Goethe Institute where I reached level B1+.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

Beside teaching Italian, I am a musician. I am the lead singer of a tribute band of Mina, one of the greatest Italian singers. Music is my passion and it allows me to share and carry on the heritage of Italian music culture. As a singer , I can share my passion for Italian music with my students, fostering a deeper appreciation for the language and culture. This enthusiasm can be contagious, motivating my students to learn and explore more.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

Turin, my hometown, holds a special place in my heart. I appreciate its rich history and culture - the stunning architecture, vibrant squares, and the delicious regional cuisine. I love the picturesque natural setting, with the Alps forming a breathtaking landscape. Even though I've traveled to over 50 countries for work and pleasure, this is the place to which I can always return and draw strength and comfort.
