Hello! My name is Julia. I have been teaching Chinese for 13 years.
I have taught at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, the Moscow State University of Management, and at a secondary school. I was born in the Russian Far East, and from the window of my university, I could see China. So, I spent almost every weekend in China.
I prepared my students for the HSK exam, and my students participated in the international Chinese language competition "Bridge of Chinese Language," organized by the Office of the International Council for the Chinese Language (founder of Confucius Institutes worldwide).
I worked in China as a guide and interpreter and conducted concerts in Chinese.
I have a very interesting feature— all my students who study with me for a year definitely go to China the following year, either for internships or travel.
My favorite city in China is Beijing, and my favorite province is Yunnan, particularly the city of Kunming, because it has a lot of beautiful flowers, Chinese tea, and wonderful mountain air.
I hope you will be able to see all this beauty with your own eyes.

What is your favorite word in your language and why?
互惠互利 Hùhuì hùlì mutual benefit and mutual cooperation. I like this expression because it reminds me of that old Chinese friend I had when I was translating at an exhibition, he taught me this, and I like this expression because it has a lot of h sound, and that's why it sounds funny

Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?
I love studying Arabic, and I can sing in Ukrainian. I understand this language, but I can not speak fluently

What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?
I truly love producing artists and bringing their vision to life with the help of AI. I create unique AI-driven music videos, help musicians compose and refine their sound with the support of artificial intelligence, and distribute their tracks across leading platforms such as iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon Music, and iHeartRadio. Additionally, I assist singers in securing live radio broadcasts on top Russian stations, ensuring their music reaches the widest possible audience.

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?
I was born in the city of Blagoveshchensk, Russia. Yet the first places where I truly felt at home were Los Angeles and New York. When I arrived in Los Angeles, I cried tears of joy — for the very first time, I felt a deep sense of peace within my soul. New York also feels special to me, because its energy reminds me of my childhood. What’s most surprising is that during all the years I lived in Moscow, the capital of Russia, I never once felt at home there. In contrast, the atmosphere of Los Angeles resonates deeply with me, almost like an echo of my hometown. The people are warm, and I can honestly say I adore this city.
