What is your favorite word in your language and why?
My favorite word is an Arabic expression from my home country, Lebanon, called na’iman. It’s used to congratulate someone after they’ve had a shower, a haircut, or a shave something like saying “blessings” or “you look refreshed.” The word comes from na’im, meaning bliss or a heavenly state, and it’s a way of wishing someone continued comfort and well-being. The proper response is Allah yanaam alaik, which means “may God bless you too.”,

What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?
My favorite dish from my hometown is Wara Anab, grapevine leaves stuffed with rice. They can be prepared vegetarian or with meat, and they’re also known as Dolma. Luckily, they’re easy to find. you can usually enjoy them at any Lebanese restaurant around the world, even in places like Los Angeles.

Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?
In addition to teaching French, Spanish, and English, I also speak Arabic and a bit of Italian. I started learning Italian about a year ago, and although I study it on and off depending on my schedule, I really enjoy it. I’m also fascinated by Turkish and Mandarin Chinese, and I hope to keep expanding my language skills so I can connect with people all over the world.

What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?
I love sketching and writing, and I’m passionate about traveling and going on trips with friends. I also enjoy listening to music, dancing, and staying active, whether that’s hiking, doing Pilates, or other kinds of exercise. And as a coffee lover, I really enjoy discovering new restaurants and coffee shops wherever I go.

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?
I’ve been living outside of Lebanon for five years, and now I consider Valencia, Spain, my second home. I love the sunshine. there are almost 360 days of sun a year! The beach, the fresh air, the friendly people, and the relaxed lifestyle make it such a special place. I’ve made wonderful friends here, and I truly think it’s one of the best cities to live in and to visit.
