What is your favorite word in your language and why?
My favorite Chinese word is "心" (xīn), because it represents not only the human heart but is also closely tied to emotions and thoughts. In Chinese, "心" is often used to express sincerity, care, and understanding, which aligns perfectly with my teaching philosophy. As a teacher, I believe that true learning is not just about acquiring knowledge but about communication and understanding from the heart. That’s why I love the word "心" — it reminds me to always focus on my students' inner worlds and to convey care and sincerity in my teaching.

What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?
My favorite dish from my hometown is lamb soup, as it represents the traditional flavors of our area. The soup is rich and warming, perfect for cold weather. It is made with fresh lamb and unique herbs, giving it a delicious taste. Although I no longer live in my hometown, there is a restaurant nearby that serves authentic lamb soup, and the taste is almost the same as back home. So whenever I miss the taste of my hometown, I go there.

Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?
Besides the Chinese I teach, I am also learning some medical terms and expressions related to Traditional Chinese Medicine. As someone with a strong interest in TCM, I hope that learning the relevant language will help me better understand and communicate within this field. Additionally, I am working on improving my English speaking skills so that I can communicate more fluently with international students.

What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?
Besides teaching, I have a strong interest in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In my free time, I enjoy reading books on TCM to learn more about herbs and healing practices. I also love exploring different food cultures, particularly those that focus on healthy eating. Additionally, I enjoy sharing my learning experiences and life moments on social media, helping others to better understand Chinese language and culture.

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?
I consider my hometown to be Zhuozhou, especially Dongxianpo Town. The scenery here is beautiful, with distinct seasons and a peaceful atmosphere. I particularly love the fresh air and the tranquil pace of life here. As someone focused on farming, the rural environment of my hometown provides me with endless inspiration and energy. The people here help each other, and the relationships are close-knit. The slower pace of life is perfect for rest and recharge. I love Zhuozhou because it offers a warm, quiet environment where I can focus on doing what I love.
