Strømmen Group Classes are very lively, social, and even more affordable than our private classes. This isn’t your high school language class (or classroom for that matter!) Meet at fun locations in Los Angeles. Group classes are 1.5 hours long and meet once a week, for 8 weeks (12 hours total)

FRENCH FOR TRAVEL (Online)

French Beginner (CEFR A1)
Mondays 5:00 pm—6:30 pm • Begins: May 15
Total Class Length: 9 hours
Jam-packed with all the French basics you need for travel. Going on a trip? This 6-week class will get you ready, whether you’re completely new or just want a refresh. Instead of a grammar based approach, we will use situation-based sessions to learn phrases, listen to French native speakers, and role play situations so you are fully prepared. Topics will include: greetings; basic questions; pronunciation; ordering food; shopping; directions; reservations; airports and train stations; hotel vocabulary; numbers; expressing simple thoughts, likes and dislikes. Small class ensures ample time to practice and receive individual attention. No text required, content will be provided. If you’re not sure of your level or have any questions, please reach out so we can assess and get you the instruction best tailored to your needs (typical assessment is a 5-10 mins phone conversation or zoom if preferred). French Beginner (CEFR A1)
Tuesdays 5:00 pm—6:30 pm • Begins: May 16
Total Class Length: 12 hours
A continuation of FRENCH BEGINNER 2, perfect for ‘fake beginners’. This class goes beyond the simple basics but still at a beginner level. Students will learn how to make plans, order in a café, talk about the weather and ask questions. We will also dive into speaking in the past tense through storytelling, talking about travel and the news. Grammar topics: - modal verbs (vouloir/pouvoir/devoir) - some 2nd and 3rd group verbs - emphasis pronouns - passé composé - le passé récent My classes are designed to maximize your learning with conversation practice of new language elements each week, review of basics, and lots of resources to practice at home. Texts required, some online content provided. If you haven’t taken FRENCH BEGINNER 1 and 2 with me (two 8-week sessions) I strongly encourage reaching out so we can assess and get you the instruction best tailored to your needs. In each step of the target language learning process. students will develop more autonomy. Our tailor-made courses will help students to explore French culture through reflective reading, listening and writing activities. At each stage of the learning process, students will develop important comprehension and communication skills. We want them to be able to face real-life situations with the French language really fast. Öthman is a native French speaker from Paris, France. French Advanced

Total Class Length: 12 hours
For advanced students (B2 and beyond). Are you a book lover or avid reader? Enjoy a French book while improving your language skills! This class is intended for you to speak as much as possible while expanding and refining your proficiency through reading, reflecting and conversing. We read a francophone literary work according to the group’s interests, usually a modern classic. In class you will share your favorite passages and explain why you found them interesting. Your instructor will be available to provide contextual elements, literary commentaries and historical framework where needed. Survey about your reading preferences will be provided upon registration. Possibility to meet in person in Silverlake on occasion if interest is high.   • Group class lengths can vary, but are typically 8 weeks, 90 minutes each.
  • Tuition payments are non-refundable and cannot be postponed to a future term..
  • Check the class details for text requirements set by the tutor.
  • Minimum of 3 students for 12 hours – Options will be offered if enrollment is low, including shorter classes and/or private classes at a discount.
