INTRODUCTION TO GERMAN POETRY, SUMMER SESSION
- Saturdays starting July 9th from 5-6:30pm
- Online!
- Jerilyn's Profile
- Texts Required
Have you ever wanted to read the German Shakespeare, Goethe, but didn't know where to start? Do you appreciate poetry in the vein of Byron, Tennyson, and Shelly, and would be curious to learn about their German counterparts? Are you aware of the influence of the German Romantic movement on the worldwide artistic sensibilities of the time? Whether the answer to these questions is yes or no, you'll find this class interesting, exciting, and enlightening.
Each class session, we'll discuss a poem or selection of poems from renowned German poets, including Goethe, Schiller, and Rilke. We'll also cover some lighter fare, such as the humorous and touching poems of Joachim Ringelnatz. Focus will be on classical poetry rather than contemporary (living) poets, however, some modern song lyrics (99 Luftballons) will be covered. If you have a favorite German poet or have come across a piece you're curious about, bring it for consideration!

We believe it's fundamentally wrong to only learn a language from a text book, audio CD, or computer program. It's time to get away from the computer, grab a coffee and meet your local Strømmen teacher for a real conversation.
Strømmen has been the highest rated language school in Los Angeles for over 5 years. We are a teacher Co-op which means you get a great price and our teachers are happy. You may have a teacher right next door!
