Portuguese interpreters in Los Angeles.
Portuguese interpreters for Los Angeles depositions, broadcasts, and business meetings, matched Brazilian or European to your speaker. When a Brazilian fighter takes the mic on an LA fight night, this is the language on the earpiece.
About
Brazilian or European? We ask before we book
Portuguese splits into two main standards: Brazilian and European. They share a written language but differ noticeably in pronunciation, vocabulary, and everyday usage, enough that a speaker used to one can stumble over the other in fast conversation. Most Portuguese work in Los Angeles involves Brazilian speakers, but not all of it, so we ask which your speaker uses and match the interpreter to it.
The most visible Portuguese work we do is broadcast. Brazilian fighters are a fixture of LA combat-sports cards, and when one wins, the post-fight interview needs live Portuguese on air within seconds. Portuguese was one of the four languages our interpreters covered live at the Ronda Rousey fight at the Intuit Dome in May 2026. That work runs on simultaneous interpreting under broadcast pressure, which is its own skill.
On the legal side, Portuguese is one of California's designated certified court languages, so courtroom and deposition assignments go to interpreters who hold the state credential. Plenty of Portuguese legal work here involves Brazilian parties in business and entertainment matters, and the same variety question applies on the record as anywhere else.
A straight word on supply: of the Romance languages we staff most, Portuguese has the smallest interpreter pool, well behind Spanish. Good Portuguese interpreters exist in LA, but they book out, so lead time genuinely helps. Strommen has been a founder-run Los Angeles language company since 2006, and we would rather tell you that up front than scramble the day before your deposition.

A vetted roster, not a marketplace.
Founder-vetted, every one
Strommen is not a marketplace. Garrett Strommen has run this roster personally since 2006. Every interpreter we send has been vetted by the founder, and most have worked with us for years.
Court-certified where it counts
For legal settings we staff California court-certified and registered interpreters: the credential LA Superior Court and federal courts actually require, not a self-declared specialty.
NDA-bound as standard
Two decades of film, TV, and legal work means confidentiality is the default. Our interpreters sign NDAs routinely and are used to pre-release material and sealed matters.
LA-anchored, worldwide
Based in Los Feliz, staffing Los Angeles daily, and on location nationwide or abroad when the job travels. Travel is billed transparently on the quote.

FAQ
Portuguese interpreting questions.
Do you staff Brazilian Portuguese or European Portuguese?
Both, and we ask which one you need before we book. Brazilian and European Portuguese share a written standard but differ in pronunciation, vocabulary, and everyday usage, enough to slow down fast testimony or a live interview. Most LA requests are Brazilian, but tell us where your speaker is from and we match accordingly.
Are your Portuguese interpreters court-certified?
For legal work, yes. Portuguese is one of California's designated certified court languages, so courtroom and deposition assignments require an interpreter who has passed the state certification exam. That is who we send. For broadcast, business, and medical settings, we match by experience in that environment instead.
Can you cover live broadcast work in Portuguese?
Yes, and we have. Portuguese was one of the four languages our interpreters covered live at the Ronda Rousey fight at the Intuit Dome in May 2026. Brazilian fighters are a fixture of LA combat-sports broadcasts, and live post-fight interpreting is a specific simultaneous skill we staff for, not something we hand to a generalist.
How much lead time do you need for a Portuguese interpreter?
More than you'd guess. Of the Romance languages we staff most, Portuguese has the smallest pool, so the strongest interpreters book out. A week or more of lead time gives us real choices; same-week is sometimes workable but tight. Book as soon as your date is set, especially for certified legal work.
What does a Portuguese interpreter cost in Los Angeles?
We quote per project in half-day and full-day blocks covering up to 8 hours. Because the qualified Portuguese pool is smaller than Spanish, Portuguese carries a modest supply premium. Certified legal work and live broadcast simultaneous bill above general consecutive. No coordination fees, no booking deposits.
I need a Portuguese document translated, not a meeting interpreted. Same team?
Same company, different specialists. Interpreting is spoken, translation is written, and we staff them separately. Written Portuguese still splits Brazilian and European in spelling and usage, so tell us which market the document is for. For contracts, certificates, or court filings in Portuguese, send the document over and our translation side will quote it.
