Russian interpreter in Los Angeles — Strommen

About

Russian work in LA, from the courthouse to the arena

Los Angeles has had a substantial Russian-speaking population for generations, anchored by West Hollywood's long-established community. That presence keeps Russian interpreting demand steady across the city: civil litigation, medical exams, real estate deals, family law, and the everyday business of a community that has been here a long time.

Russian is one of California's designated certified court languages. For hearings and depositions, that means the interpreter must pass the state's court certification exam, and that is the credential we require before sending anyone into a courtroom or a deposition. The certified Russian pool here is solid, and most assignments staff within the week.

One thing we are careful about: Russian often gets treated as a catch-all for anyone from a post-Soviet country, because many people from that part of the world speak it as a second language. But Ukrainian, Georgian, and Armenian are separate languages, not dialects of Russian, and a speaker may not want to testify or be examined in Russian even if they can manage it. We never assume. We ask what language your speaker actually prefers and staff that language when it's the right call.

Russian also shows up in our broadcast work more than most people expect. Fight sports draw athletes from across the Russian-speaking world, and when the Ronda Rousey fight at the Intuit Dome needed live interpreting in May 2026, Russian was one of the four languages our interpreters covered on the broadcast. Strommen has been a founder-run Los Angeles language company since 2006, and Russian has been on the roster the whole way.

Why Strommen

A vetted roster, not a marketplace.

Founder-vetted, every one

Strommen is not a marketplace. Garrett Strommen has run this roster personally since 2006. Every interpreter we send has been vetted by the founder, and most have worked with us for years.

Court-certified where it counts

For legal settings we staff California court-certified and registered interpreters: the credential LA Superior Court and federal courts actually require, not a self-declared specialty.

NDA-bound as standard

Two decades of film, TV, and legal work means confidentiality is the default. Our interpreters sign NDAs routinely and are used to pre-release material and sealed matters.

LA-anchored, worldwide

Based in Los Feliz, staffing Los Angeles daily, and on location nationwide or abroad when the job travels. Travel is billed transparently on the quote.

FAQ

Russian interpreting questions.

Are your Russian interpreters court-certified?

For legal work, yes. Russian is a designated certified court language in California, so courtroom and deposition assignments require an interpreter who has passed the state certification exam. That is who we send. For business, medical, and broadcast settings, we match by experience in that environment.

My client is from Ukraine. Should I book a Russian interpreter?

Ask the client first, and we will too. Many Ukrainians speak Russian, but Ukrainian is a separate language, and plenty of speakers prefer not to give testimony in Russian even when they can. We staff Ukrainian separately when that's the right fit. Never assume; the wrong call here can sour a witness before the first question.

Do you cover other post-Soviet languages too?

Where we can, yes. Russian works as a shared second language for many speakers from post-Soviet countries, but Ukrainian, Georgian, Armenian, and others are distinct languages. Tell us where your speaker is from and what they grew up speaking, and we'll staff the actual language rather than defaulting to Russian.

How fast can you staff a Russian interpreter in Los Angeles?

Usually within the week. Russian has a solid certified pool in LA, so same-week staffing is the norm for most settings. Multi-day bookings, simultaneous conference work, or a request for one specific certified interpreter all benefit from extra lead time, so book those as early as you can.

Can you do live broadcast work in Russian?

Yes, and we have. Russian was one of the four languages our interpreters covered live on the Ronda Rousey fight broadcast at the Intuit Dome in May 2026. Post-fight interviews, press conferences, and live TV all need an interpreter who keeps pace under lights, and that's a specific skill we staff for.

I need a Russian document translated, not a meeting interpreted. Same team?

Same company, different specialists. Interpreting is spoken, translation is written, and we staff them separately. Certified translations for court or immigration use are a common Russian request, and that goes through our written side, not the interpreter roster. For contracts, certificates, or filings in Russian, send the document over and our translation side will quote it.
