Farsi interpreter in Los Angeles — Strommen

About

The largest Iranian community outside Iran

Los Angeles is home to the largest Iranian community outside Iran. Westwood earned the nickname Tehrangeles for a reason, and the community's footprint runs through real estate, medicine, law, and business across the whole west side and the Valley. That is where Farsi interpreting demand comes from here: depositions in business disputes, real estate transactions, independent medical exams, and family matters.

Farsi is one of California's designated certified court languages. For a courtroom or a deposition, that means the interpreter has passed the state's certification exam, and that is the credential we require before sending anyone into a sworn setting. The certified Farsi pool in LA is real but not deep, so the earlier you book, the better your options.

One distinction we always check: Farsi, Dari, and Tajik are closely related varieties of Persian, but they are not interchangeable in practice. A Farsi interpreter from the Iranian community is not automatically the right fit for a Dari speaker from Afghanistan, and vice versa. Vocabulary, pronunciation, and register differ, and in testimony those differences matter. We confirm where your speaker is from before we staff, every time.

Outside the legal world, Farsi work in LA includes medical exams and consults, business negotiations, and community settings. Compared with most languages we staff, Farsi demand skews noticeably toward business and real estate. Strommen has been a founder-run Los Angeles language company since 2006, and the Farsi roster gets the same treatment as every other language we staff: confirm the speaker, match the interpreter, then schedule.

Why Strommen

A vetted roster, not a marketplace.

Founder-vetted, every one

Strommen is not a marketplace. Garrett Strommen has run this roster personally since 2006. Every interpreter we send has been vetted by the founder, and most have worked with us for years.

Court-certified where it counts

For legal settings we staff California court-certified and registered interpreters: the credential LA Superior Court and federal courts actually require, not a self-declared specialty.

NDA-bound as standard

Two decades of film, TV, and legal work means confidentiality is the default. Our interpreters sign NDAs routinely and are used to pre-release material and sealed matters.

LA-anchored, worldwide

Based in Los Feliz, staffing Los Angeles daily, and on location nationwide or abroad when the job travels. Travel is billed transparently on the quote.

FAQ

Farsi interpreting questions.

Are your Farsi interpreters court-certified?

For legal work, yes. Farsi is one of California's designated certified court languages, so courtroom and deposition assignments require an interpreter who has passed the state certification exam. That is who we send. For business, medical, and community settings, we match by experience in that environment instead.

My client is from Afghanistan. Is a Farsi interpreter the right call?

Maybe, but don't assume. Dari, spoken in Afghanistan, is closely related to Farsi but differs in vocabulary, pronunciation, and register, and a Farsi interpreter from the Iranian community is not automatically the right fit for a Dari speaker. Tell us where your speaker is from and we'll staff accordingly, including Dari when that's the correct match.

What about Tajik speakers?

Tajik is another Persian variety, spoken in Tajikistan and written in Cyrillic, and it sits at a further remove from Iranian Farsi than Dari does. The same rule applies: we confirm the speaker's origin before staffing rather than treating all Persian varieties as one language. If you're not sure what your client speaks, we can help you find out.

How fast can you staff a Farsi interpreter in Los Angeles?

The certified Farsi pool here is real but not deep, so book early. With a week or more of lead time we can usually offer choices; same-week is often workable but tighter. For trials, multi-day depositions, or a specific certified interpreter, reach out as soon as your date is set.

What does a Farsi interpreter cost?

We quote per project in half-day and full-day blocks covering up to 8 hours. Because qualified Farsi interpreters are scarcer than the demand in LA, Farsi carries a modest premium over deep-pool languages like Spanish. Certified legal work bills above general consecutive. No coordination fees, no booking deposits.

I need a Farsi document translated, not a meeting interpreted. Same team?

Same company, different specialists. Interpreting is spoken, translation is written, and we staff them separately. That includes certified translations when a court or government agency requires one. For contracts, certificates, or court filings in Farsi, send the document over and our translation side will quote it.
