Tutor Bio

Hallo! Hello everyone ! (:

My name is Dora, and I am a German teacher.

In my classes, I really care about creating a safe and relaxed learning environment where you are able to build confidence and start to speak freely (and also make mistakes — mistakes are completely normal and a natural part of the learning process). As someone who speaks multiple languages and having experience in moving countries and coming from different backgrounds , I understand what challenges come with learning a new language.

A little bit more about me and my background: My teaching experience include formal training at the Caritas Academy in Graz, where I completed a teaching certification in German as a second language and literacy. As a part of the course, an internship was undertaken involving classroom observation, team teaching, and independent teaching of A2 to B1 level learners in a group setting.
This was followed by a teaching position at a summer school program in Vienna, working with teenagers (A2–B1 level learners), preparing the students for the upcoming exam that they had to take in the beginning of the school year. The lessons were focused on interactive and communicative language development.
In addition, I have been teaching Online now for a few months. I have been teaching students across all proficiency levels, from beginners to advanced learners, creating individual learning concepts depending on the students goals. This also includes preparing students for higher-level exams such as C1.

I am really passionate about helping my students gain confidence to express themselves in German. I would be happy to learn with you, and I hope to see you soon.

Learn more about Dora

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

I speak English, some French and I understand (and can speak, B1 level )Croatian. . I started to study Egyptian Arabic and I am also looking to improve my Croatian skills in the future

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

My favorite thing to do is to swim and collect shells and I also want to learn to freedive and to surf soon. My dream is to live by the ocean one day. I like to travel, especially learning about different cultures and languages while traveling. I enjoy watching movies and I think that the craft of film-making is super interesting. Another hobby of mine is basketball and I also like to go to the gym.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

I was born in Vienna. What I really like about the city is the architecture, the coffeeshops, the art and the parks are really pretty too. And the bread of course XD

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

my favorite words are: Fernweh- a deep longing off being at a far off place in the world, describing wanting to explore and experience. Sehnsucht - the feeling of longing, missing someone or something deeply, often a mix out of pain and desire. Abendrot - the red glow of the sunset Waldeinsamkeit -the feeling of being alone in the forest schimmern – to shimmer or glow

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

My favorite Austrian dish would be " Palatschinkensuppe ", which is a soup with cut up pancakes. It sounds a bit weird but it is actually pretty good. And of course " Wiener Schnitzel" - a classic. If you are ever in Vienna and would like to try authentic Austrian cuisine, I would recommend the restaurants " Bauernbräu " and " Wiener Wiazhaus ".
