Tutor Bio

Bonjour ! My name is Hanseenee, and I am a French language instructor from Mauritius, a multicultural and multilingual island where languages play an essential role in everyday life. I hold a Master’s degree in English, a DALF C2 certification in French, and I am currently pursuing an Erasmus Mundus Master’s in International Inclusive Education.

I have experience teaching French to both adolescents and adults, in secondary schools and online. My teaching approach is student-centred, interactive, and adaptable to different levels and learning objectives. Whether you want to improve your conversational French, strengthen your grammar, expand your vocabulary, or develop greater confidence in speaking, I aim to create a supportive learning environment in which you can progress at your own pace.

As someone who understands the challenges and advantages of learning and using multiple languages, I believe that language learning should be both meaningful and practical. My lessons are tailored to your individual needs, interests, and goals, helping you use French with greater accuracy, fluency, and confidence.

I look forward to helping you discover the richness of the French language and achieve your learning goals. À bientôt !

Learn more about Hanseenee

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

One of my favourite words in Mauritian Creole is “lakaz,” which means “home.” I like this word because, to me, home is more than just a physical place. It represents belonging, family, comfort and the feeling of being connected to your roots. I also love how language carries these deeper meanings and reflects the culture and experiences of the people who speak it. Growing up in Mauritius, where different languages and cultures coexist, has taught me to appreciate how even a simple word can express a strong sense of identity and belonging.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

One of my favourite dishes from Mauritius is "dholl puri". It is a thin flatbread filled with ground yellow split peas, traditionally served with bean curry, "rougaille" and pickles. What I love about it is not just the taste, but also the memories and culture associated with it. Dholl puri is part of everyday life in Mauritius, and you can often find people enjoying it at street-food stalls or buying it for lunch. I’ve literally NEVER had dholl puri outside Mauritius, and I miss it so much! 😭 Someone please put me on to a good spot!

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

Besides French, I speak English and Hindi, and I can also understand a few words in Punjabi. I’ve recently started learning Italian, which I’m really enjoying!

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

Outside teaching, I enjoy watching gameplay videos. I’m also really interested in architecture. I enjoy discovering different architectural styles & admiring the details of buildings.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

I wouldn’t say I have one particular hometown. I’ve lived in different places, so the idea of home is not necessarily tied to a single city for me. Work in progress 😉
