  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

Although it's rather simple on the surface, I like the word "get". It can be used in so many different ways, and in so many different situations. Besides "to receive", you can use it with different prepositions to create really specific and sometimes complex ideas and concepts. For example, "get with it" is a command that tells someone to try to understand what's happening, but also carries with it a bit of a criticism of the person who doesn't quite understand the concept yet. That's a lot of meaning conveyed with just a few simple words, and that's just one example. There are dozens more with the word "get".

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

When I was growing up, there was a mom and pop restaurant around the corner that served a "Double Cheese Whammy", a subway style sandwich with a burger cut in half, lettuce, tomato, and a house sauce

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

I speak intermediate Spanish and German, and once I feel like I have a good handle on those languages I want to study Arabic next

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

I'm a parent of two small children, so that takes up most of my times. Other than that, I play soccer, swim, and am generally very active, and love being outside

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

Right now, I live near Cologne, Germany. I love the city because the people are so open and friendly, the food is great, and there is always something to do. It's also a beautiful city, right on the Rhine, and the cathedral is incredible.
