Tutor Bio

I come from the beautiful country of Norway, where a healthy lifestyle and outdoor activities are very much embraced. My teaching career began in Norway after receiving a teaching degree from Høyskolen i Østfold in Halden, Norway. I then lived and taught in the U.S. for many years, including teaching Norwegian at Madison College in Madison, WI. Currently I teach Norwegian online for the US Air Force and British Ministry of Defense , as well as students all over the world. The proficiency level of my students range from beginner to more advanced (A1-B2). Some are also preparing to take Norsk prøven (Official Norwegian Exam).

Aside from my passion for teaching, I enjoy participating in outdoor activities, networking, socializing, coffee shops, singing, playing piano and guitar.

Personally Vetted · Strømmen’s Note

Fifteen years teaching Norwegian, Norskprøven exam prep included: genuinely rare to find a tutor covering that specific certification, and Lisbeth does.

Learn more about Lisbeth

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

My favorite word in Norwegian is "koselig". The word means that an activity, people or a place is something you experience as a positive thing. You are enjoying being with the people you are with and the atmosphere is cozy.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

I do not have a favorite dish but a favorite Norwegian dessert. It is called bløtkake, and is a cake basically made out of heavy whipping cream and fresh fruit. Oh so yummy! Worth trying if you get a chance.

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

I know some French because I took 3 years of French in high school. I am now doing Duolingo daily to freshen up my French skills.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

I enjoy writing music, singing and playing the guitar and piano. I also like hiking and bicycle riding.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

This one is a tough one to answer since I have moved around a lot. I have spent about 1/2 my life in Norway and the other 1/2 in the USA. I would have to say that I love both countries because of all the pleasant memories from both places.
