What is your favorite word in your language and why?

My favourite word in Spanish is “morriña.” It comes from a region in the north, very close to where I did my studies, so it makes me feel connected to that area — which is fitting, given its meaning. “Morriña” is the feeling of missing home, whether it's a house, a person, or simply a sense of belonging somewhere. And since I have lived in different cities and countries, I feel like there’s a bit of "morriña" for every place I’ve left behind.

What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

Next to my hometown, there’s a place that has no menu — it only serves one dish: "cocido". It’s a traditional Spanish stew made with meat and chickpeas that warms your soul.

Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

I am fluent in English and I can speak and understand German in an intermediate level.

What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

Outside of teaching, I love exploring new cultures through travel, literature, and food. I enjoy reading, making pottery, knitting, watching series, and discovering fun activities wherever I am. I also love learning new languages, as it helps me understand different perspectives and stay connected to the world. This is why I'm currently studying Portuguese.

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

I come from a small village in the center of Spain, but it has been a long time since I lived there. That's why Oviedo, a city in the north of the Spanish peninsula, is the place I would call my hometown. It's surrounded by nature, its people are friendly and always willing to help, and it offers everything one might need without the stress of big cities.
