  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

Not a word but a French expression "Qui ne tente rien n'a rien", which means that if you don't try you will not get a shot at anything :).

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

Belgium offers so much good food but unfortunately, none is available here! Waffles, chocolate, carbonnade (beef stew with beer), and my favorite: fries. Did you know fries are actually from Belgium and were called French fries by the US Army during the war? They were in the French-speaking part of Belgium (Wallonia) when they tried the delicious double-fried potatoes and thought they were in France! Take a class with me to find out more fun facts!

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

Yes I studied Latin, Greek, Dutch, Italian and Portuguese.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

Exploring Southern California, traveling, and trying on new food!

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

Lille in the North of France. I studied there for many years and love this city. It's right on the other side of the border where I am originally from, the architecture is beautiful, the food is delicious and the people are welcoming and nice. I would recommend you watch the French movie "Bienvenue chez les Ch'ti" to better understand this region!
