Licensed American English Educator — Your Guide to Confident Communication, Cultural Discovery, and Global Connection

I’m a licensed English teacher with a Master’s degree in Education (ESOL), and I’ve been living and teaching English in Japan for over 15 years. During that time, I’ve had the chance to work with students of all ages and backgrounds. I’ve taught STEM in English to preschoolers, negotiation and presentation skills to corporate professionals, and conversation, literacy, and critical thinking skills to secondary students. Every student is different, and that’s one of the things I love most about teaching.

My passion for languages and cultures started in college when I took an anthropology class. For one assignment, I had to attend a religious service from a tradition different from my own. My father, who is also an academic, encouraged me to visit a Hindu temple where one of his colleagues was a member. That experience opened my eyes to the incredible diversity of human cultures, and from that point on I became fascinated with learning about the world.

I later studied abroad in New Zealand, where I lived in international student housing with people from all over the world. After graduating, I moved to Japan — and 15 years later, I’m still here!

Through my own language-learning journey, I’ve learned that we improve the most when we surround ourselves with the language, consume lots of meaningful content, and have opportunities to practice with native speakers. I’ve seen this in my own Japanese, and I’m applying the same approach to learning Spanish now by spending time with Spanish content every day and practicing with my neighbor, who is a native Spanish speaker.

My goal is not just to be your English tutor, but to be your language and culture coach. My teaching style is flexible and personalized because everyone learns differently. My background in education and years of experience have given me the tools to create support that fits your goals, interests, and learning style.
