What is your favorite word in your language and why?

"Trời ơi" is one of my favorite Vietnamese phrases because it is such an easy and useful phrase. "Trời ơi" literally means " Oh heaven!" and it is similar to "Oh my goodness" or "Oh no" in English. The phrase "Trời ơi" is an expression of surprise, shock, or disbelief. It is often used to convey a reaction to something unexpected, alarming, or impressive. It can also express excitement, joy or even sympathy, depending on tones and situations.

What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

"Bánh cuốn" - Vietnamese steamed rice rolls - is my favorite dish. When I needed something light, delicate yet flavorful, "Bánh cuốn" was always my go-to dish.

Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

I had learnt English in college in Vietnam and Japanese in a Japanese language school in Japan. As a language learner, I find the method of Communicative Language very effective because it focuses on interaction and communication in real-world situations. It helped me develop communicative competence and use the languages independently. Therefore, I have used this approach to help my students reach their goals.

What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

Traveling is one of my interests. To me, traveling is a journey that goes beyond the very act of moving from one place to another. It helps me create indelible memories, expand my knowledge and gain insights into people and cuisines and get to immerse myself in local cultures.

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

I am proud to call Nam Định City my hometown. It is a small city which might not be on the list of popular tourist destinations, but it is rich in history, culture, and natural beauty. That is where the familiar sights and sounds bring me comfort.
