Italian Citizenship Test PracticeTest di cittadinanza italiana · Livello B1
Italian citizenship by marriage or residency requires certified B1 Italian. This free practice test mirrors the reading and grammar sections of the CILS B1 Cittadinanza exam — entirely in Italian, with the same ~60% pass line.
How the Real Test Works Com'è fatto l'esame ufficiale
For citizenship, Italian law (D.L. 113/2018) requires a B1 certificate from a recognized exam — most applicants take the CILS B1 Cittadinanza (Università per Stranieri di Siena) or the equivalent CELI or PLIDA exam. The exam has five parts; this page lets you practice two of them online and shows you what to expect from the rest.
Test Instructions Istruzioni del test
Unlike our level tests, this works like the real exam: answer every question — you pass at 60% or above.
- Answer every question. The real exam has no skipping — if you're not sure, choose the best answer you can.
- Everything is in Italian. Texts, questions, and answers — exactly like the official CILS B1 Cittadinanza.
- No dictionary, no translator. You won't have one on exam day. Give yourself about 15 quiet minutes.
- 60% is the pass line. That's 12 of 20 questions — the same threshold the official exam uses for each section.

Writing & Speaking Practice Produzione scritta e orale
The official exam also tests writing and speaking. Try these CILS-style prompts on paper or with a tutor — they can't be auto-graded, but they're half of what decides your pass.
Produzione ScrittaWriting · two tasks, about 30 minutes
On the real exam you write by hand. Practice on paper, count your words, and have a tutor or Italian-speaking friend correct it.
Produzione OraleSpeaking · conversation + monologue, about 10 minutes
Record yourself answering, then listen back — or book a trial lesson and run a full mock interview with a native Italian tutor.
