Tutor Bio

I am a Spanish instructor from Madrid, Spain, with over 30 years of teaching experience. I specialize in authentic Castilian Spanish and work with both adults and motivated students who are serious about making real progress.

My teaching approach is structured, personalized, and focused on communication. I design each lesson around the individual needs of my students, helping them build confidence step by step while developing strong speaking, listening, and comprehension skills.

Rather than relying solely on textbooks, I emphasize real-life language use—so my students can communicate naturally and effectively in professional, academic, and everyday situations.

I have extensive experience teaching one-on-one and in small group settings, both in Spain and in the United States. My goal is to create a supportive and engaging learning environment where students feel comfortable, challenged, and motivated to succeed.

Whether you are learning Spanish for work, travel, or personal growth, I will guide you with a clear structure and a practical approach that delivers results.

Learn more about Antonio

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

One of my favorite words in Spanish is “sobremesa.” It refers to the time spent talking and enjoying conversation after a meal. It reflects an important cultural value in Spain: taking time to connect with others, not just eating and leaving quickly.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

One of my favorite dishes from Spain is paella. It is a traditional rice dish originally from Valencia, made with ingredients such as seafood, chicken, and vegetables. It is not just a meal, but a social experience, often shared with family and friends.

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

In addition to Spanish, I speak English fluently. I have worked extensively with English-speaking students, which allows me to clearly explain Spanish concepts and help students bridge the gap between the two languages.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading classical literature, especially Spanish poetry, and continuing my own professional development in education. I am also interested in culture, language, and meaningful conversations that connect people from different backgrounds.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

I consider Madrid, Spain, my hometown. It is a vibrant city full of history, culture, and life. I love its energy, its people, and its rich traditions, which have deeply influenced my passion for teaching the Spanish language and sharing its culture.
