What is your favorite word in your language and why?

My favorite word in Spanish is "APAPACHAR", which means "to cuddle / hug / spoil someone." It has such a sweet meaning, and when I say it I feel like I'm sending out a spell of gentleness and kindness into the air.

What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

I grew up in New Jersey, and I'm actually proud of it. Actually! But in all seriousness, I loved grabbing an onion bagel toasted with butter from my local bagel shop, and I also befriended the staff at a local Mexican restaurant, who would on occasion give me free meals.

Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

Besides Spanish and English, I speak and understand Hebrew at an intermediate level, and I am always learning and practicing the language of music!

What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

I am a trombone player, and I'm always excited to join a jam session. I'm also a passionate gardener and farmer, and I dabble in bread baking. I would love to exchange pastry recipes, and learn about how you connect to the earth!

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

I grew up in northern New Jersey, which I love because of the diversity of cultures, perspectives, and languages there, as well as the proximity to beautiful natural spaces. Don't sleep on Jersey!
