Qué tal chicos/as cómo están? My name is Axel and I am from Bogotá, Colombia. I have been living in LA for more than 30 years and with Strommen for almost ten! During this time I have helped many students of all ages learn, not just Spanish, but also key aspects of Hispanic and Latin American cultures essential to better understand and appreciate the language. I graduated with a BA in Spanish and Linguistics from UCLA, an institution I continue to be a part of. I also speak French and Portuguese which provides me with a unique understanding of how these romance languages work and relate to each other. No matter your needs (academics, business, travel, short or long term), I love what I do and enjoy sharing this passion with folks ready to unravel a new world while they reach their goals as well.

What is your favorite word in your language and why?
Too many to choose ;-)

What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?
Ajiaco (traditional potato and chicken soup). Sazón Colombia ( Chatsworth) serves the best and most authentic Colombian food.

Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?
I speak French and Portuguese. I’d love to spend some time in Italy and learn that beautiful language too!

What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?
Piano and music in general. I also enjoy reading, dining out, traveling, hiking, and walking my dog around the neighborhood.

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?
These days, Silver Lake. I spend a lot of time at home and I very much enjoy the area. I also still have a deep connection with Bogotá and love spending time there at least once a year.
