The power of the word.

What is your favorite word in your language and why?

My favorite word in Spanish is ojalá. It’s short and simple, yet it carries a profound sense of hope and longing. Rooted in Arabic origins meaning “God willing,” ojalá reflects a deep cultural and emotional connection to faith, possibility, and the future. Whether whispered in uncertainty or spoken with conviction, it expresses the human desire for something better—something just out of reach, but still worth wishing for.

What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

Outside of teaching at Strommen, I’m passionate about connecting with people and sharing the richness of my culture. I find joy in building meaningful relationships and creating spaces where learning and understanding can flourish. I also work in disability support, helping individuals pursue their university degrees and navigate academic challenges. Supporting others in reaching their goals—especially when the path isn’t easy—is deeply fulfilling to me. It’s more than a job; it’s a way to contribute to a more inclusive and respectful world.

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

I was born in Mexico City, a vibrant and culturally rich place that will always hold a special place in my heart. I love it for its energy, its endless things to explore, and of course, its incredible food. But for the past 20 years, I’ve made my home in Los Angeles. Here, I’ve found a sense of peace and stability that has shaped my life in meaningful ways. While Mexico City is where my roots are, Los Angeles is where I’ve grown—and both cities are part of who I am.
