Learn more about Lusine

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

My favorite Armenian word is “ջան” (jan). It is a small word, but it carries so much warmth. Armenians use it to show affection, kindness, and closeness — with family, friends, students, and even people they have just met. It can make a simple sentence feel softer, warmer, and more personal. For me, “ջան” beautifully reflects the Armenian spirit: heartfelt, welcoming, and full of care.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

My favorite dish from my hometown, Yerevan, is dolma — grape leaves or vegetables filled with a delicious mixture of meat, rice, and herbs. For me, dolma is not just food; it feels like home, family gatherings, and Armenian hospitality on one plate.

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

Not yet, but I plan to study Chinese.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

Outside of teaching at Strommen, I enjoy exploring languages, culture, and communication in different forms

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

I consider Yerevan, Armenia my hometown. I love Yerevan because it has a special warmth that is difficult to describe but easy to feel.
