Tutor Bio

Hi, my name is Marlon Rivas Sánchez, I'm a passionate teacher with more than 15 years of experience teaching Spanish language and literature at Venezuelan universities. I also have experience in teaching Spanish as a second language. I have been an online Spanish tutor for more than two years now. I enjoy and put a lot of effort into teaching. I specialize in creating custom-made lessons for my students based on the functional communicative approach. Depending on the student´s level I practice conversation and also work with a variety of texts, videos and other interesting material. I also help students improve their Spanish grammar and vocabulary so they can express themselves more correctly and appropriately when communicating with native speakers both in writing and speaking.

Personally Vetted · Strømmen’s Note

Marlon leans on literature as much as grammar out of Santiago, with real communication situations built into every lesson instead of just vocab drills.

Learn more about Marlon

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

“Amuñuñamiento,” as a noun, and the verb “amuñuñar” are my favorite Spanish words because they're very expressive and fun in the Venezuelan variety.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

My favorite Venezuelan dish is “Tostada Caroreña.” Here in Chile, I prefer “cazuela de vacuno”—it's a delicious soup.

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

    I currently study English

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

I love cicling, swimming and work out at the gym. Also I enjoy reading and learning new things, and get to know new people.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

Now my hometown is Santiago de Chile. I like Santiago because there are a lot of things to do here.
