Tutor Bio

Hola, ¿qué tal? Soy Matías, de Argentina. I've been a Spanish tutor for over 10 years, and helped 200+ students get better at Spanish.

I like to think learning a language is a life-long journey, and that there are different checkpoints at which passengers can get on (or off!). Some start off with the guidance of a tutor, some prefer to look for them a bit further down the road, when things start to get muddy. Others just want to use the language they've been honing for years.

Whatever the case, I'll be more than happy to meet you. If you're getting started, I'll give you the environment (and pointers) you need to make solid progress, and if you're on your way I'll make sure your current limitations don't prevent you from communicating successfully.

I'm passionate about sharing with others what makes Argentinian Spanish stand out and discussing my own culture. I host a podcast, a YouTube channel and a website where I try to do just that!

I'd love to hear from you,
Thanks for reading :)

Learn more about Matias

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

My favorite Spanish word is dulce de leche. Just saying it brings the taste to my mouth.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

I'm big on the pizza game. Argentinian pizza deserves more recognition than Argentinian beef, especially in downtown Buenos Aires. I can't recommend Guerrín enough.

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

I speak English and Brazilian Portuguese.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

I've played drums for most of my life, and music plays a central role in my daily life and at home. My six-year-old son is learning the violin, and my wife is a vocal coach. I can’t imagine life without music—and, to be totally honest, I believe there’s no better language than the language of music. Speaking of languages, astrology (understood as a symbolic language rather than a divinatory practice) also holds a special place in my heart. Reading and writing are how I stay grounded when I take a break from the metaverse. Real, paperback books. I’ve published three fiction books so far. And last but not least, grilling is my favorite weekend pastime.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

I consider Buenos Aires my hometown. It's where I was born and where most of my story takes place. If there's anything I love about Buenos Aires is you never get enough of it, and there are places to be discovered round every corner. However, my life in a small town now outdoes the bustling city life.
