Learn more about Melany

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

My favorite word in Spanish is Merequetengue because it can mean many different things depending on the country and situation you find yourself in! In Colombia, it can mean dance, movement, fuss, or party, In Mexico it describes a chaotic or disorganized situation. In Guatemala, it can refer to an object, unknown item or gadget, party and food.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

Garnachas are my favorite dish from back home! You can make them at home with tortillas and ground beef, or simply head down to your local downtown and you´ll find many people selling them late at night!

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

I am a language enthusiast, I am currently learning French and German.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

I love reading about history and watching documentaries.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

Guatemala City! It´s such a culturally diverse place with kind and welcoming people.
