Tutor Bio

My name is Milton, and I am passionate about teaching languages. I hold a degree in Languages, translation and interpreting (Portuguese–English) and I am currently completing my postgraduate specialization in Portuguese as a Foreign Language (PFL). My academic background, combined with my practical teaching experience, allows me to create lessons that are both structured and adaptable to each student’s needs. I believe that learning a language goes beyond grammar—it is also about understanding culture, communication, and expression. That is why I bring aspects of Brazilian culture, daily life, and authentic materials into my classes, making the learning experience dynamic and engaging. As a tutor, I am patient, organized, and committed to my students’ progress. I always adapt my approach to the student’s level, pace, and goals, whether they are preparing for academic studies, relocating to Brazil, or simply learning for personal enrichment. You can count on me for professionalism, consistency, and personalized guidance throughout your language journey. My goal is to help you feel confident, motivated, and capable of expressing yourself in Brazilian Portuguese.

Learn more about Milton

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

My favorite word in Portuguese is "visceral", which means something deeply rooted or heartfelt. It’s my favorite word because it captures the intensity and depth of emotions.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

I love “cachorro quente misto”, a local version of the hot dog made with both chicken and minced meat. It’s one of my favorite dishes from my hometown!

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

I do speak a little Spanish, and I'm trying (struggling) to learn some German as well.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

Outside of teaching, I love watching series and movies, reading, writing, and sometimes reciting my own poetry at local bars. I also enjoy going out with friends, especially to rodas de samba, and taking part in my spiritual and religious activities.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

My hometown is São José do Rio Preto, in Brazil. I love it because it’s a warm and lively city, full of friendly people, good food, and a strong sense of community. It’s the kind of place where you always feel welcome and at home.
