Tutor Bio
Ciao & Hola!! Mi chiamo Ruth and I was born and raised in Torino, Italia.
I grew up speaking Italian at school and Spanish at home because my parents are Argentines. I thought I would become an interpreter, but life gave me other opportunities. Today, I like to share my love for my hometown languages and see how passionate students can quickly learn to speak them while learning, discovering, and having fun together!
I love to teach and explain the language and how to understand it and pronounce it correctly, I enjoy creating games and exercises to make it fun and exciting.
I can’t wait to listen to your story, and why you want to learn it, and when you least expect it, you will be saying it to me fluently in your new language!

What is your favorite word in your language and why?
My favorite word in Italian is "Ciao". Yeah, I know it sounds basic! But it's true, I just love the simplicity of it and how you can say so many things with just changing the tone and intention of it. I like to use it in a calm and sweet way, to show the other person that everything's alright with just one first word.

What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?
I used to live in a small town called Bricherasio, in provincia di Torino. In the north there is this traditional dish that people use to have at family dinners or gatherings: Bagna Cauda. It's a cream, made with butter, anchovies and garlic! It's cooked for a few hours and when it's ready it's served in the center of the table and everyone have their own plate with different vegetables (potatoes, lettuce leaves, cauliflower, etc.) and you eat your veggies and bread dipped in bagna cauda. The best way of serving it is to give each person an individual small pot with a candle to keep it warm! It's not something you can really storage.. so I believe it's hard to find a restaurant who serves it fresh! :(

Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?
I can speak a little French and I am currently learning American Sign Language :)
-
What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?
I am a Voice Actress and Film Actress, and when I'm not teaching at Strommen I am auditioning, filming or recording!
-
What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?
My hometowns are both Bricherasio and Cordoba (Argentina). I grew up in the first one, and I am so grateful for the peaceful and lovely childhood I have been blessed with. In Cordoba I spent my college years, and it became my home for a long time. I love them both with all my heart.

★★★★★Ruth is great! This was the first time learning a language really “stuck” for me. I like the laid back environment but also challenging exercises and opportunities to ask questions. It was relaxed enough where I felt comfortable asking questions but challenging enough to where I felt like I was learning. I am really excited for the next round! -
