Tutor Bio

Hola me llamo Danny. ¿Qué tal?
I was born and raised in Madrid, Spain, by an American mother and a Spanish father.
After a 3-year stop in Barcelona, I spent my senior year of high school in Mendocino, California. I then returned to Madrid to proceed with my schooling. I lived in Los Angeles, California, for 9 years pursuing a career in acting, and that´s where I fell in love with teaching. I live back in Madrid now.
I have a BA Degree in Communication and an AA degree in Dramatic Arts. While in college, I taught English.

Besides teaching, my interests revolve around Film and TV, guitar, and personal development.

Based in Madrid

Personally Vetted · Strømmen’s Note

Danny treats every English lesson like a scene to build, dialect coaching included, and he's been at it for thirteen years.

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

Eclético. I love the sound. I love the meaning. I relate to it very much :)

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

You can't beat Pulpo a la Gallega :) Oreja is surprisingly good, and you can't go wrong with a good Paella. In the summer nothing refreshes you better than tinto de verano.

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

I used to know Catalán because I lived near Barcelona for 3 years as a kid but I hardly use it anymore so I can understand it but don't speak much of it. I have a casual understanding and interest in German and Italian as well.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

Acting, Improv, playing guitar, going to the gym, reading, watching soccer, (Real Madrid of course) following the NBA... I am a big movie nerd as you can imagine :)

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

Madrid. I love how well-connected it is. You can get by perfectly in most of the city without owning a car. People talk about the New York or London subway but in my experience, nothing beats Madrid when it comes to that.

I took a sample class with Danny S and it was excellent. Danny S balanced speaking practice and explanation really well. I’d happily recommend Danny S to new students.
