Bonjour à tous! My name is Maryam, and I’m Persian. I love everything about French, the musicality, the pronunciation and the culture embedded in it. After receiving my bachelor’s degree in French language from university Allameh tabatabaei and DELF diploma, I moved to Montreal, Canada to enrich my knowledge in French. While studying at the University of Montreal to get my certificate in French as a second language, two of my articles were selected to be published in livre "Marathon d’ecrit", it’s like a trophy to me. I’ve translated many articles for magazines and newspapers in my country and taught French to candidates to immigrate to Canada. Also, I’ve been working as a swimming instructor and life guard for more than 14 years, so I have experience in teaching challenging skills to all ages! I am looking forward to sharing all my knowledge of this beautiful and lovely language with you.

What is your favorite word in your language and why?
My favorite Farsi word is «خوشحال», meaning “happy.” I love it because it expresses such a positive feeling and is a word we use often in everyday Persian conversations.

What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?
My favorite dish from my hometown is Ghormeh Sabzi, a classic Persian herb stew. It’s flavorful, comforting, and reminds me of home and family. There are several Persian restaurants in Los Angeles that serve it, but homemade Ghormeh Sabzi is still my favorite!

Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?
I have also studied some Armenian and enjoy exploring different languages and cultures.

What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?
Outside of teaching, I enjoy traveling, staying active, cooking, exploring different cultures, and spending time with family and friends. I also love learning about languages, meeting new people, and discovering new places.

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?
I consider Los Angeles my hometown because I’ve built my life here and truly feel at home in this city. I love its diversity, beautiful weather, and the opportunity to meet people from so many different cultures and backgrounds.
