Tutor Bio

¡Hola! Soy Natalia, de Buenos Aires, Argentina. I hold a Degree in Literature & Linguistics and a Master's Degree in Teaching Spanish as a Second Language, and I have +15 years of experience in this field. I've taught adults, teenagers, and kids, face-to-face and online, also in companies and embassies. Besides, I've worked as Academic Director at a prestigious Spanish school. Therefore, I have plenty of experience, not only teaching the language, but also creating Spanish programs, designing lesson plans, assessing students and monitoring their progress.

To sum up, I have a great toolkit to customize my lessons, so they meet each student's specific needs, interests and goals. Besides, I truly believe enjoying the process is a key factor to learn efficiently, so I work hard for my classes to be fun too!

Learn more about Natalia

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

Probably "estupefacto/a". It's a fancy word (very similar to the Latin word "stupefactus") that means 'thunderstruck', 'amazed'. I don't really know how I learned it when I was 10 years old, and used it non-stop for a long time. From an adult perspective, it must have been funny to hear from a kid!

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

My hometown is famous for its meat, and I'm vegetarian... to be honest, I'm an Asian food lover: Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese... I can't name only one dish!

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

I speak English and some French. I've studied and understand Portuguese and some German, but can hardly speak. Finally, I've also learned Latin and ancient Greek, which are very useful to understand other language structures and logics, even when I can't speak them; I use this knowledge to understand my students' specific needs and problems based on the language(s) they speak, and also to help them take advantage of what they already know or use.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

I'm interested in literature, philosophy and politics, and most of my readings go that way. In my free time, I also cook a lot, take care of my plants, watch (lots of) movies, and rock climb.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

I've just moved from Buenos Aires, the city I was born and where I've always lived. I left because it's a bit too crowded and noisy, but it's also a lot of fun: every single day there are concerts, movies, plays, readings and more. During the last years, gastronomy has developed amazingly, and nowadays, there are many great restaurants. Finally, the city is huge but also flat, so it's ideal to bike everywhere with a single speed, and that's what I love the most (:

I love Natalia so so much, and I've learned so much more Spanish working with her over this year. She brings fun and humor to each class, and most importantly makes me feel at ease to speak candidly (and often incorrectly, yes) in Spanish, which is what's most important. Looking forward to continuing my tutoring with her well into next year!

I did a sample lesson with Natalia B; it was great. Natalia B tailored the lesson to a true beginner pace while keeping it fun. I’d happily recommend {name} to new students.
