My experience of teaching Spanish is a combination between 1:1 private and group classes, I have also had experience of teaching Spanish in person and with families during my time as an Au Pair. My classes are always personalized around the students, where the material is planned according to their abilities and learning style.

What is your favorite word in your language and why?
My favorite world in my own language is "ARREBOL" , which describes a colorful - red sunset. I think sunsets are such a beatiful thing to appreciate, and they are a "nice touch" to finish the day.
-
What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?
My favorite dish is a warm handmade "Arepa de Chocolo" (something like a sweetcorn patty), served with melted butter and a lot of fresh cheese.

Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?
I speak English, but the beauty of studying a language is that you are forever learning! Everyday I am discovering new words, phrases, and cultural meanings, and I love to help my students do the same. Next on my list to learn is Portuguese, so that I can explore Portugal and order lots of Portugese Tarts and Port.. Yum.

What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?
Having been lucky enough to be born in one of the most geographically and biodiverse countries in the world, Colombia, I have been able to enjoy many outdoor activities in incredible landscapes throughout my entire life. I think this has made me quite an adventurous person, so I love doing things like scuba/free diving, mountain trekking, cycling, and all types of adrenaline sports. I like to discover my creative side, which I am currently doing through macrame (good hobby to make gifts at xmas ;) ). Outside of that, spending time with friends/family, going to concerts and theatre is something I love to do. And when there is a big thunderstorm, there is nothing better than listening to the storm from the safety of my balcony with a cup of yummy Colombian Coffee.

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?
Colombia will always be my home in my heart, but having travelled a lot I have found that I can feel at home anywhere that I feel a connection with the people, and the surroundings. For me the most important thing is to feel safe, happy, and appreciate the space around you.

Lindsey LCarolina is an incredible instructor! She has been working with my 9-year-old daughter, and I couldn’t be more impressed. She is patient, warm, supportive, and incredibly creative in her teaching style. Carolina has an exceptional ability to connect with children—she knows just when to redirect and how to adapt her approach to keep lessons engaging and effective. I’ll admit, I was initially skeptical about online language learning, especially for a young child. But Carolina has completely changed my perspective. This experience has been nothing short of amazing! I highly recommend Carolina to anyone looking for a thoughtful and skilled Spanish teacher. We’re so grateful to have found her—we even hope to visit her in Colombia someday for in-person language sessions! Thank you so much, Caro!

Catherine RCarolina is an amazing teacher. She is excellent at explaining concepts and selects exercises that are both engaging and helpful. She is very supportive and always comes to class prepared with content. When I began taking classes, I could barely say hello, and now I am able to form complex sentences after just a few months. She is flexible and understanding when it comes to scheduling. Carolina makes learning Spanish fun and easy. I cannot recommend her enough!

Hannah MCarolina is a fantastic Spanish tutor. She is extremely encouraging, making it a safe space to learn and grow, and has consistently challenged me throughout our lessons, which has allowed me to progress over time. I appreciate the way she varies the hours we spend together with a mix of conversations, practice modules, audio and video comprehension. I feel so much more confident speaking the language than I did when I started. Highly recommend!
