  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

残心(ざんしん/Zan Shi N) Zanshin is more than just a technique. It is recognized as one of the most beautiful and profound concepts in the Japanese language and culture. It literally translates to "Lingering Mind" or "Remaining Spirit." This phrase itself evokes a sense of poetic depth, suggesting that your consciousness does not just stop when an action is completed, but rather gently flows and persists. It embodies the Japanese aesthetic principle of valuing the space between actions and the importance of the ultimate finishing touch (the aftermath). This idea elevates a simple movement into an art form, emphasizing grace, discipline, and complete mental presence. I feel it is the most beautiful Japanese word!!

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

Hmmm,,,, This is the most difficult question for me, because Japan has a lot of amazing food!! If I'd had to choose one dish,,,hmmm,,,, I recommend Sukiyaki, because you can eat raw egg in Japan!!

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

I speak English and have been learning Spanish

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

I'd love to travel the world so I really love hearing the experience about other countries from students!! :)

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

Japan is beautiful, interesting and Unique!
