Tutor Bio

Hello!

My name is Wenlong, and I am from China. I currently live in Kunming. I earned my bachelor’s degree in Shenyang in 2010 and worked as an engineer until 2019. Since 2011, I have been learning English from my foreign friends and colleagues while teaching them Chinese in return. Over time, I discovered that I enjoy teaching Chinese much more, and it became my true passion. In 2019, I decided to become a full-time Chinese teacher. I am now a certified teacher of Chinese as a foreign language.

In my free time, I enjoy jogging, swimming, biking, playing computer games, listening to music, and reading. I am also learning German as my third language.

I look forward to sharing my enthusiasm for the Chinese language with you and helping you speak it fluently. Most importantly, I hope you enjoy and have fun throughout the process of learning this beautiful language.

Learn more about Wenlong

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

My favorite phrase in my language is “不用担心,” which means “don’t worry.” I like it because it’s simple but very comforting. It reminds me to stay calm and not stress too much about problems.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

I don’t have just one favorite dish from my hometown—I love a lot of them, haha. I really like cooking and I cook every day. These days, if I want to try a tasty dish that I don’t know how to make, I just watch a video online and learn to cook it myself.

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

I speak English and can communicate fluently. I also speak German at a B1 level, and I spend time every day learning and practicing it.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

I enjoy running. I’ve loved sports since I was a child, and running is the easiest one to do. I really enjoy the feeling of moving freely. I also like playing soccer, but these days I mostly watch it instead. I follow the Premier League, the Champions League, and La Liga, the Spanish football league. I also enjoy snowboarding, but since I live in a place without much snow, I can’t snowboard in winter now. Another big interest of mine is reading. I enjoy both fiction and non-fiction, and whenever I face challenges, I often turn to books to find answers.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

My hometown is Xinyang, a city in Henan Province, China. I love Xinyang because it is famous for its beautiful mountains, fresh air, and delicious green tea. The city has a slower pace of life compared to big cities, and people are very warm and friendly. It feels peaceful and comfortable, and it always gives me a sense of belonging.
