Learn more about Bill

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

My favourite word is "serendipity". I like it because it reflects how many relationships in my life have started unexpectedly but left a lasting impact. It reminds me to value every encounter.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

My favourite dish is egg and tomato. It’s simple, fresh, and comforting. The balance of sweet and savory always reminds me of mom's cooking.

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

As a Chinese Canadian, I grew up speaking both English and Chinese. In daily life, I use both about equally. At work, the ratio is roughly 80 percent English and 20 percent Chinese.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

I’m a motorcycle enthusiast. I enjoy the sense of freedom it brings. Whenever possible, I choose to ride instead of drive.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

I consider both Shanghai and Vancouver my hometowns. Shanghai represents my family heritage and cultural roots. Vancouver holds my memories of growing up and shaping my identity.
