Learn more about Leonardo

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

Bandeja Paisa. It's very popular in my country so it can be found in almost every restaurant.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

Manizales. I was born and raised in this city. I think it represents the perfect balance between a town and a big city. In short, it is a "people-friendly" city with very friendly people.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

I'm a musician. I enjoy composing and playing electric guitar. I'm particularly interested in progressive rock.

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

Not right now, I'm focused on getting the languages I currently speak and teach to the highest level.

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

"Perronalidad". I love it because I think it's perfect for talking about the "personality" of a dog while still referring to them as "dogs" instead of "persons". There are no direct equivalents in the other languages I know, that's another reason why I find it so special.

I've worked with Leonardo for several years now, and I can honestly say my Spanish has improved tremendously because of him. When I first started, I struggled to form even basic sentences. Over time, through our weekly classes and conversations, I've developed the confidence to speak naturally and hold real conversations in Spanish. Leonardo has a great ability to push you just enough while keeping the classes engaging and enjoyable. Learning a language can be difficult, but he has a clear method and knows how to guide students so that progress actually happens. Looking back at where I started compared to where I am now, the improvement is night and day. I highly recommend working with Leonardo if you're serious about improving your Spanish while actually enjoying the process.

I've been taking classes online with Leonardo for a year now, and it's been such a wonderful experience. Not only has my understanding of Spanish grown immensely, I feel like I've made an actual friend as well. I look forwards to our classes even after long days from work and my children. You know how sometimes you find a musical artist online that's a hidden gem and you almost want to keep them to yourself? Leonardo is the same thing but in the form of a Spanish teacher - he's that good. To those of you fortunate enough to be able to fit on his calendar, enjoy! And to Leonardo: remember me when you're super popular!
