Tutor Bio

My name is Sophie, and I’m an experienced tutor offering lessons in German and Spanish. Originally I am from a little town called Graz in Austria, but both my parents are Argentinian, which is why Spanish is my mother tongue. With over three years of tutoring experience, I’ve taught English, Spanish, and German, helping students of all levels improve their skills and gain confidence.

I believe that language learning is not just about grammar and vocabulary—it's about understanding the culture behind it. I love getting to know my students and creating a positive and engaging learning experience for them. With my background in both Spanish and German, I’m confident in my ability to help you succeed and make learning enjoyable. Let’s start this exciting journey together!

Based in Vienna

Personally Vetted · Strømmen’s Note

A native German and Spanish speaker based in Vienna, Sophie mixes grammar, readings, and conversation deliberately, to keep lessons from repeating.

Learn more about Sophie

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

I love the word “Fernweh”, which is the opposite of homesickness, because it perfectly describes the feeling I often have when I want to go far away and travel. It’s similar to wanderlust, but the literal translation would be “far-sore/ farsickness”.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

It has to be “Kaiserschmarren”, a sweet, caramelised and fluffy type of pancake, which is broken up into bits and usually is served with “Zwetschgenröster“, a plum compote. Especially tasty when it is snowing outside.

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

In school we were taught French, Italian and Latin, but the language I am really passionate about is Portuguese.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

I’m interested in baking, dancing salsa, my friend’s lives, reading and occasionally playing the piano.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

Graz is definitely the first place I would consider my hometown. It’s where I grew up and the place where I have the best childhood and adolescence memories. I love it because it is a really charming and picturesque little city, the people are very friendly and it has lots of nature all around and in the city.
