Start 2026 Speaking Spanish with Confidence!

¡Hola! I’m Elizabeth, a native Spanish speaker born in Venezuela and raised in Colombia. I love helping students feel comfortable and confident speaking Spanish in real-life situations—whether they’re learning for work, travel, or personal growth.

I hold a Master’s Degree in Spanish from California State University, Fullerton, I’m a certified Spanish Interpreter, and I’m currently a PhD student in Spanish. I have many years of experience teaching Spanish to adults in corporate settings, college/university, and children in elementary and high schools, working with learners at all levels.

Having lived in different countries and learned other languages myself, I truly understand the challenges of learning a new language.
My classes are personalized, practical, and supportive. I create a warm, welcoming environment where students feel comfortable participating, making mistakes, and gradually building confidence while enjoying the learning process.

My goal is to help you feel confident using Spanish while enjoying the learning process and discovering how a new language can open many personal and professional doors.

If you’re curious about my teaching style, I invite you to book a free 30-minute Spanish class so we can meet, talk about your goals, and start speaking Spanish together.

¡Espero conocerte pronto y ayudarte a aprender español de forma fácil y divertida!

Learn more about Elizabeth

  • What is your favorite word in your language and why?

One of my favorite words in Spanish is “sobremesa”. It refers to the time spent sitting at the table after a meal, talking, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company. There’s no exact word for it in English, which makes it even more special. For me, sobremesa represents connection, conversation, and taking time to enjoy the moment—all things that are very important in Spanish culture. It’s also what I love to bring into my classes: relaxed conversation, meaningful connection, and learning Spanish in a natural, enjoyable way.

  • What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?

One of my favorite dishes from my hometown, Caracas, is hallacas. Hallacas are a traditional Venezuelan dish, especially enjoyed during the holidays. They are made with corn dough filled with a flavorful mix of meats, vegetables, olives, and raisins, all wrapped in banana leaves and slowly cooked. What makes hallacas truly special is not just the food, but the experience. They are usually prepared with family, spending hours together talking, laughing, and sharing stories. Even though I no longer live in Venezuela, hallacas always make me feel connected to home, tradition, and the warmth of being together. It’s a dish that represents culture, family, and celebration—and a wonderful way to discover a piece of Venezuela.

  • Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?

I speak Spanish and English, and I studied Italian in Italy, so I understand what it feels like to learn a new language in a real-life setting.

  • What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?

Outside of teaching at Strommen, I volunteer with the American Red Cross, which is very meaningful to me. I also love traveling, learning about different cultures, and spending time with family and friends. These experiences inspire me and often influence the way I connect with my students in class.

  • What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?

Margarita Island will always feel like home to me—sunny days, delicious food, and memories I’ll never forget.
