What is your favorite word in your language and why?
My favorite word in Arabic is **"حياة" (hayat)**, meaning *life*. I love it because it feels full of energy, hope, and everyday beauty—it’s a reminder to live with pride, joy, and a little spice. 🌶️

What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?
My favorite dish from Aleppo is kibbeh—especially the stuffed, fried version that’s crispy outside and juicy inside. It’s more than food; it’s tradition, family gatherings, and the unmistakable flavor of home. Even if I’m away, I always look for restaurants that serve it, but honestly, nothing beats the way it’s made back in Aleppo.

Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?
Besides the languages I teach, I’m exploring a few others too—I’m at A1 level in Spanish, and just starting out as a beginner in German and French. It’s a fun challenge, and I enjoy picking up little phrases that make each language feel alive.

What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?
Outside of teaching, I’m into gaming (Rocket League), making playful resources, and creating cheerful video intros that show off my Aleppo roots. I also enjoy listening to the Qur’an before sleep for balance and comfort.

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?
I consider Damascus my hometown because I lived there for about a year, and that time left a big mark on me. I love the city’s mix of ancient history and everyday life—you can walk through streets that feel timeless, enjoy incredible food, and feel the warmth of the people all around you. It’s a place that stays with you.
