Bonjour! Guten Tag! My name is Yvanka and I'm a language teacher and polyglot. A native English speaker, I'm also fluent in French , German and Spanish and have dabbled in a few other languages. I hold several language certifications (DALF C2 , Goethe Zertifikat B2). My love for languages and travelling led me to France and I began teaching in Alsace. I later moved back home and worked briefly as a translator before being drawn back to teaching. I offer classes in French and German. My focus is on student led learning and I adapt the teaching process based on the student's needs and learning goals while also keeping in mind the CEFR guidelines.
I'm an absolute bookworm and when I'm not teaching languages, I can be found curled up with a book! I also love writing and enjoy spending time working on my latest tales in English and French. I've published a couple of novels and novellas in English and one novella in French.
I'm passionate about languages and teaching. I truly believe that learning a new language is a lot like setting off on a grand adventure as you never quite know where it will take you!

What is your favorite word in your language and why?
My favorite word is Petrichor- the smell of the earth after the first rain. I live in the tropics and the arrival of the rainy season is always a magical time.

What is your favorite dish from your hometown? If you no longer live there is there a good local restaurant that serves it?
My favorite dish from India is Biryani!

Besides the languages you teach, do you speak or study any other languages?
I absolutely love learning new languages! Apart from English, French, German and Spanish, which are the languages I work with, I have also dabbled in Italian, Japanese, Russian and Classical Greek. I'm currently learning Swedish. I've always felt that learning a new language is quite like setting of on a grand adventure as you never know where it might take you.

What are your interests outside of teaching at Strommen?
I'm an absolute bookworm and when I'm not teaching languages, I am usually curled up with a book! I also love writing and enjoy spending time working on my latest tales in English and French. I've written and published two novels and two novellas in English and one novella in French. I'm passionate about literature and language and have put together anthologies in both English and French and recently launched a French magazine in my country. My other hobbies include travelling and exploring new places and adventures. I'm also fond of baking and embroidery .

What do you consider your hometown? Why do you love it?
I've always loved Goa, a small town on the west coast of India where my family comes from. The beaches are a fantastic spot to unwind and the cuisine and culture make me feel at home.
